Earl D. Schnabel

Earl D. Schnabel, age 86 of Hobart passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025.  He was born on December 22, 1938 in Gary, Indiana to the late Ralph and Ruth Schnabel.  Earl grew up in Merrillville and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1957.  He served his country in the U.S. National Guard.  Earl also lived in Portage and Crown Point over the years.  He retired from Szymanski Construction where he worked as a Plasterer/Cement Finisher.  Earl was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed woodworking and word search puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha "Bert" Schnabel (nee Powell) of Hobart, IN; two sons, Mike (Shari) Schnabel of Lowell, IN; Duane (Christie) Schnabel of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Kim (Perry) Maynard of Hobart, IN; Michelle (Ken) Thews of Portage, IN; one brother, Ralph Schnabel of Downers Grove, IL; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, Lynn Campbell and Mike Bellinger, and one sister, Christy Schulte.

Funeral services are Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev.
