Edward L. Carlisle "Ed", age 82, of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

Ed was born on September 23, 1939 in West Frankfort, IL to the late Carl and Thelma (nee Jones) Carlisle.  He was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1957.  Ed retired from The Anderson Company after 41 years of service and kept busy by working for Enterprise Car Rentals and Chuck's Bakery.  He married the love of his life, Carolyn, on September 15, 1962 and spent 47 wonderful years together until her passing in 2010.

Ed was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hobart for many years where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir director. He was most recently a member of Faith Bible Church in Valparaiso.  Ed played the trombone in many community bands including Gary Symphony Orchestra, North Coast Jazz, Hobart Community Band, U.S. Steel Band, and the Ross Summer Music Theater.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to spend time in his garden.  Ed was a huge Chicago Cubs fan.  His grandchildren were his world and his family his greatest treasure.  Ed was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Edward is survived by his children: Elaine (Jim) Berridge, Catherine (Paul) Bigger, and Laura (Tom) Martin; grandchildren: David (Brittany) Berridge, Michael (Kayla) Berridge, Lauren (Chad) Dokken, Stephen Berridge, Kelly and Erik Bigger, and Christina and Jonathan Martin; great-grandchildren: Hailey Berridge, Liam Dokken, Kayden Berridge, Carolynn Berridge, and Ava Berridge; siblings: Carl (Janet) Carlisle, Ronald Carlisle, and Larry (Kathryn) Carlisle; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; parents, Carl and Thelma; and sister, Jane Evelyn Carlisle.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W Old Ridge Rd, Hobart) on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 3:00-6:00 P.M. with a funeral service following at 6:00 P.M. with Ed's younger brother Mr. Larry Carlisle officiating.  Ed will be laid to rest beside his wife Carolyn at McCool Cemetery.
