Edward J. Ellch "Ed", age 78, of Hobart and formerly of Gary, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2022.
Ed was born on May 12, 1943 in Gary to the late Joseph "Eddie" and Edith (nee Craig) Ellch. He was a graduate of Calumet High School in Gary, Class of 1961. Ed worked as Ironworker in the Ironworker's Union #395. He was a proud Army veteran, having served overseas in Germany during the Vietnam War. Ed was a member of the American Legion Post #54 in Hobart and was a Mason for many years. As a hobby, Ed enjoyed creating stained glass window ornaments and even created a business card holder for his beloved wife, Mickey. He was at one time a fisherman and a gardener and was always working on something in the garage.
Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mickey (nee Heveder) Ellch; children: Denise (Charlie) Dockter and Eddie (Kelly) Ellch; grandchildren: Madeline Wronko, Melissa Wronko, Michael Wronko, Mitchell Wronko, and Gabrielle Paul; great-grandchildren: Dominic and Lilah; siblings: Sherrie (Jerry) Botkin, Elaine (Joe) Bolanowski, Laura (Bill) Cohen, Debby (nee Ellch) White, Tammy (Bob) McCamy and Gary (Debbi) Ellch; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Eddie and Edith; sister: Colleen (nee Ellch) Appleby; and brother: Michael Ellch.
Family and friends may gather for a memorial visitation at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W Old Ridge Rd, Hobart) on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Chris Kaste officiating.
