Edward K. Kray, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away May 1, 2024, at the age of 97. He was born on September 10, 1926, in Gary, Indiana to the late Joseph and Angeline Krasoczka. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 9, 1951, he married Joan Szczepaniak at St. Hedwig Church in Gary. Ed retired from U.S. Steel where he worked in management for 40 years and he was a long-time member of The Chopin Choir. He was a former president of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce and a dedicated member of St. Bridget Catholic Church.
Ed was a loving, patient, positive man in a household of girls! He happily traveled with Joan on countless trips to Hawaii. Sharing that "Aloha Spirit" with his daughters and family has given us all many joyful memories. Ed was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, friends, and the community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Joan (nee Szczepaniak) Kray; daughters, Susan (Richard) Ehrenfeld, Sharon (Larry) Streit, Kristin (Doug) Githens; grandchildren, Tim (Holly) Streit, Kara Hiatt, Lauren (Victor Nespor) Ehrenfeld, Richard Ehrenfeld, John (Jen McPherson) Ehrenfeld, Andrew (Kristen) Githens, Haley Githens; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Drew, Grace, and Rhodes; brothers, Eugene Krasoczka and Charles (Roberta) Mroczek.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Pall and grandson-in-law, Chris Hiatt.
Visitation for Ed will be held Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 2pm until 6pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, May 13, 2024, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, with prayers starting at the funeral home at 9:30 am.
