Eleanor B. Sellers (nee Barfield), age 89, a 50 yr. Portage resident, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015. She was born on August 3, 1926 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Jack and Dorcas (nee Elliott) Barfield. She was a retired RN and was licensed in four different states; she had worked for Dr. Dy Clinic and Fountain View. She graduated from high school in Eldorado, Arkansas in 1944 and from Baptist State Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1947; and was a member of the Navy Cadet Nursing Core. Eleanor was an avid LSU Football, Cubs and Dale Earnhardt JR. fan. Eleanor was the founder of the Block Parent Program; she volunteered her time and resources to assist with the Portage High school JROTC program and was a tax volunteer at the Bonner center for 12 yrs. She also was an accomplished musician, and she was a past organist at Marquette Park and Portage Methodist. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 68 yrs., Arthur W. Sellers Jr of Portage; son, John Wesley (Rosalinda) Sellers of Portage; grand-daughter, Maribel (Steven) Vaught of Chandler, Arizona; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brianna Vaught and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers donations in Eleanor's honor would be appreciated to the local Salvation Army.
A funeral service for Eleanor will take place Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Pastor Bob Burton officiating.
