Eleanor Turpin, age 92, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Life Care Center in Valparaiso. She was born in Gary, Indiana on October 29, 1924 to the late John and Susie (nee Roznak) Lehocky. Eleanor was the youngest of 12 children, who all preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Valparaiso. Eleanor was a part of the Retired Senior Volunteer Persons where she helped in making lap robes for nursing homes. She also volunteered at VNA for 12 years and at Porter Stark. She received the Outstanding Volunteer of Porter County award in 1994. Eleanor was also a member of the American Legion, Post 260, the VFW, Post 7760 and The Senior Friendship Site in Valparaiso. In her free time, Eleanor enjoyed gardening, crocheting, BINGO, slots, and girl's night out. She will be remembered as a generous and loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Eleanor is survived by daughter, Peggy (Don) Miller; daughter in law, Harriett Turpin; grandchildren, Earl (Sue) Miller, Scott (Jeana) Miller, Morgan Turpin; great grandchildren, Alex, Jake, Brandon (Molly), Gabby (Rane), Gillian, Meghan; and great-great grandchildren, Gabe, Dimitri, Eli, Cole, Anna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Turpin; sons, Dennis Turpin, Sam Turpin; and grandson, Marty Miller.
A funeral service for Eleanor will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave Portage, IN 46368, Rev. Andrew J. Corona, officiating. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will also be Monday from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
