Elena Gilbert Dominguez, age 66, of Franklin, WI and formerly of Mukwonago, WI, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2023.

Elena Gilbert was born on June 19, 1956 in Gary, IN to the late Jorge and Herminia Dominguez.  She attended Emerson High School, Class of 1975 and graduated as their salutatorian.  She then went on to study at General Motors Institute of Engineering in Flint, Michigan and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.  While at GMI, she was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Elena Gilbert married Linda Nuñez on June 24, 1978 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Gary, IN and spent 45 years together.

Upon graduation, Elena Gilbert began working as a plant manager at Chevrolet Flint Motors.  She then went to work for 19 years with ABB, Inc. as a controls engineer.  After ABB, Inc., she worked for Rimrock Automation and then with PILZ Automation Safety, LT.  Elena Gilbert was currently with PILZ Automation Safety, LT. as a Robotics Safety Engineer.  Over the lifetime of her professional career, Elena Gilbert received three United States patents.

Elena Gilbert was a former member of Ss. Monica and Luke Catholic Church in Gary, IN, St. James Catholic Church in Mukwonago, WI, and attended at St. Mary's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. No matter what parish she attended, Elena Gilbert was always a member of the choir.  She was a member of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center and the Z Scale MKE Train Club.  Elena Gilbert was a Scout Master for Troop 229 in Mukwonago, WI for about 20 years.  Through the program, Elena Gilbert's sons Leo and Alexander graduated Troop 229 and became Assistant Scout Masters and Tomas earned the rank of Eagle Scout.   She was a member of the Classic Thunderbirds of Wisconsin and proudly owned a Classic 1956 and a 2005 Thunderbird.  She kept busy with various hobbies and recently rekindled her passion for photography.  Elena Gilbert was an avid guitar player and enjoyed playing and singing at nursing homes, hospitals, coffee shops, and karaoke nights.  She was always the biggest supporter of her sons and loved her family deeply.

Elena Gilbert is survived by her wife: Linda (nee Nuñez) Dominguez; sons: Leo (Cathy) Dominguez and their daughter: Kiyomi, Alexander (Lisa) Dominguez and their son, Francisco, and Tomas Dominguez; sister: Caroline (George) Doxas; god-daughter: Crystal Morales; god-son: Johan Britting; many beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; many dear cousins; siblings-in-law: Ninon (Orlando) Gamez, Diana (Pete) Moreno, and Joe Nuñez.

Elena Gilbert is preceded in death by her parents: Jorge and Herminia Dominguez; brother: George Dominguez; uncle and aunt: Tio Jose and Tia Josephina Valtierra; cousin: Father Tony Valtierra; parents-in-law: Ines and Mina Nuñez; and brother-in-law: Richard Nuñez.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 P.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. DIRECTLY from Ss. Monica and Luke Catholic Church (645 Rhode Island Ct., Gary).  At rest, Calvary Cemetery.
