Elizabeth "Betty/Liz" M. Bodnar, age 97, of Hobart, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was born in Linton, Indiana on December 28, 1924 to the late Stephen and Mary (nee Scecina) Hostinsky. She was a faithful member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hobart, including the St. Anne's Confraternity and Sigma Upsilon Alpha Phi Sorority. She was involved with HIEDC fundraisers including the Mama Mia Spaghetti Dinner. Betty retired from USPS. She was a devoted volunteer with Meals on Wheels and St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Chip-in-Charmers Bowling League of Hobart Lanes, line danced with the Maryann Wiggins group, frequented the Maria Reiner Senior Center, and was a Rittenhouse Village resident in Portage for two years.
Betty is survived by her children, Patti (Jon) Ford of Bozeman, MT, Jerry Bodnar of Portage, Peggy (Michael Miller) Bodnar of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter in law, Laura Bodnar; grandchildren, Erik (Christie) Pence, Suzanne Ford, Michael (Allie) Bodnar, Katie (John Rayne) Bodnar, Megan (Steven Duggan) Bodnar, Samantha (Joseph Schmidt) Bodnar; great grandchildren, Delanie, Kylie, and Zoey Pence, Harvey and Walter Bodnar; sisters, Mary Kepchar, Kathy Keaton; sister in law, RoseMary Hostinsky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Bodnar; son, William C. Bodnar; brother, Stephen Hostinsky; and her parents.
Betty's family would like to give a sincere thank you to the staff at VNA Hospice Center of Valparaiso for the exceptional care Betty received.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 2-6 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd. Hobart, IN 46342. A funeral mass will take place Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 10:00 am directly at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 107 Main St. Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. At a later date, the family will have a celebration of life and interment of her cremains will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. For more information, please call 219-942-2109.
