Elizabeth A. "Betty" "Toots" Pruitt, age 89, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017. She was born on March 5, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to the late Ignatz and Rose Lucas. On May 14, 1949, she married the love of her life, Benjamin J. Pruitt, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1999. She was known for her baking skills. She could bake anything and would always share the delicious treats with her loved ones. Betty will always be remembered for her nut roll, kolachky, and potato salad.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (De Ann) Pruitt of Chesterton, Benjamin J. (Nancy) Pruitt, Jr. of Lake Station, Jeffrey Pruitt of Tampa, Florida ; daughter, Laurie Pruitt of Hobart; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Vera Baldauf, Genevieve Conley; and her beloved dog, Benji.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin J. Pruitt, Sr.; son, David Scott Pruitt; grandson, Matthew Pruitt; daughter in law, Lesliann K. Pruitt; brothers, Leo, Paul, Don, and John Lucas; sisters, Julie Brown, Helen Malich, Katherine Flick, Eva Bodnar.
A funeral service for Betty will take place Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Dominic Bertino officiating. She will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
