Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Hasza) Wineinger, age 99 and a half, of Lake Station, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017. She was born on December 23, 1917 in Hobart, Indiana to the late George and Bertha Hasza. She was married 73 years to her wonderful, loving husband Gene, who preceded her in death in 2014. She is also survived by her daughters, Betty Jean (James) Luckow, Joan Wineinger; sons, Eugene (Linnea) Wineinger, Robert (Linda) Wineinger; grandchildren, Jill (Carl) Nehm, Douglas (Kristin) Luckow, Amy (Dr. Adam) Ostendorf, Sarah (Ian) Howe, Lisa (Buddy Pierce) Wineinger, Kelly (Jonathan) Wilkerson; many other loving great grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends.
Betty was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Merrillville. She taught Sunday school there for over 25 years. She liked to garden and bake. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the people who were responsible for her care; especially her daughter, Joan; caregivers, Kay Schrader, Lucy Gonzalez, and Jessica Rodrick; doctors, Eric Schulte, Mark Carter, and John Carter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to her family.
A funeral service for Betty will take place Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Steven R. Myers officiating. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart. Visitation will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
