Elmer W. "AL" George, age 83 of Lakes of the Four Seasons/Crown Point, Indiana passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012. He was born on April 9, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frederick and Meta George. He graduated from Crane Tech High School where he also played football. Elmer worked for Polk Brothers as a Carpet Layer, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Local 1185 Carpenters Union. Elmer was a longtime member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks fan. Elmer loved fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret B. George (nee Heinz) of LOFS, IN; 1 son, Michael (Claudia) George of Crete, IL; 4 daughters, Cheryl (Tony) Miu of Elkhorn, WI; Leslie George of LOFS, IN; Marjorie George of Orlando, FL; Caryn (Patrick) Fealey of LOFS, IN; 1 sister, Shirley Gondek of Palatine, IL, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Doris Dahl, his brothers, Edwin and Frederick George and his twin brother, Richard George.
Memorial donations in Elmer's honor may be made to the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
Funeral services are Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 99 South County Line Road, Crown Point, 46307 with Rev. Howard Clevenger, officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation is Friday, October 19, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 10909 Randolph, Winfield/Crown Point, 46307.
