ELSIE "MAE" HIGGINS (Granny Fanny), age 74, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020. She was born in Ft. Wayne, IN on June 7, 1945 to the late Frederick and Elsie M. Riggers. Mae most recently worked as a caregiver for Help at Home, but had also worked as a bookkeeper, and most proudly held the position of Vice President at Able Express, a trucking company. She loved animals, gardening, music, art, writing, but above all she cherished her family and friends. Mae will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, David Higgins; 2 children, Michael Maxwell and Denise (Jeff) Adkins; 3 grandchildren, Trevor Adkins, Jeremy Adkins, and Erin Lovall; siblings, Rolan (Merle) Riggers, Ruth Wallace, Sherman (Janet) Riggers, Dennis (Joy) Riggers, Rita (Perry) Lalonde, Elaine Castelli, and Sharon Riggers; many nephews, nieces, and other loving family and friends.
Mae was also preceded in death by her sister, Marabell (Joe) Majka.
There will be a memorial service for Mae on May 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with memorial visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Homes, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. In accordance with the Governor's order, there will be rolling attendance with no more than 25 people.
