Obituary

ELSIE (nee VIDMICH) STASSEN
age 92, of Hobart, IN, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point surrounded by her family. Elsie was a Tolleston High School Graduate and a lifelong resident of the area and she was a faithful "Pink Lady" Volunteer at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart since 1992. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Glen Park and the Parish Rosary Sodality.
Elsie is survived by her three daughters: Yvonne (Charles) Bishop of Seattle, WA, Elaine (William) Jonaitis of Highland, IN and Marie (Thomas) Joganic of Elizabethtown, IN; four grandchildren: Stephen (Julie) Bishop of Seattle, WA, Scott (Jessica) Bishop, also of Seattle, Daniel Jonaitis of Cave Creek, AZ and Jennifer (Brad) Knue of Fairland, IN; six great grandchildren: Cody & Ashley Jonaitis of Lexington, SC, Isaiah & Zoe Bishop of Seattle, WA, Audrey Knue of Fairland, IN and one brother, Steve (Claire) Vidmich of Pompano Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Stassen, son, William S. Stassen, grandson, Michael Jonaitis, great-grandson, Noah Bishop, parents, Stephen & Suzanna Vidmich, three brothers, Joseph, Frank and George Vidmich and two sisters, Elizabeth Barbick and Kathryn Wologo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 24, 2012 directly at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 330 E. 45th Avenue, Gary at 10:00 am with Rev. Stephen Loncar celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana. Visitation will be held Friday, March 23, 2012 from 2-8 pm with a St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary service at 3:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, 219-942-2109 or online www.ReesFuneralHomes.com.
In lieu of flowers Elsie's wish was that donations be made to St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or St. Anthony Hospice Fund, 203 Franciscan Dr. Crown Point, IN 46307.
