Gutierrez, Erik Reid, age 43 of Portage, Indiana passed away on Saturday June 17, 2023 at home. Erik was born on October 16,1979 in Hobart, Indiana to the late Guillermo Gutierrez and Edna Benedict. Erik was an employee at MSI Express and worked for many years doing construction work.

Erik was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football, baseball, UFC, boxing, and college basketball. His favorite teams were Notre Dame (GO IRISH), the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Erik loved music and attending concerts, comedy television & movies, his favorites included Family Guy, The Simpsons, Back to School, the Naked Gun movies, Tommy Boy and was a movie quote fanatic. He also enjoyed cooking, going golfing and was an avid poker player at Texas Hold'em. He loved his fur nieces and nephew, Daisy, Megatron and Rudy. Most of all Erik loved to make his family and friends laugh.

Erik is survived by his mother Edna Benedict of Portage, brothers Michael (Angela) Gutierrez of Portage, William Gutierrez of Valparaiso, Antonio Gutierrez of Portage, Casey Gutierrez of Houston, Texas and one sister Shirin Gutierrez of Portage. Erik had many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Erik is preceded in death by his father Guillermo Gutierrez, paternal grandparents, Concepción and Elvira Gutierrez, and maternal grandfather Douglas McMurray.

The family asks that guests wear their favorite sports team apparel to the service and a luncheon will be held following the service. Respectfully the family ask that all guests turn the volume off on their cell phones and no cell phone usage allowed in the chapel.

A funeral service for Erik will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368. Cremation to follow.
