Ernest "Ernie" Amadio Beechin, age 78, of Portage IN., passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019. He was born in Tewksbury Massachusetts on November 1, 1940 to the late Edward and Yolanda (nee Alberico) Beechin. Ernie was a very hard working self-employed man in the Construction field for most of his life and in his later years he and his wife owned and operated a Mortgage Company and were also Investors, having 50 houses, a mobile home park and a motel that they rehabbed and rented out with all of their children working for them. He was also a member of the Rock Church of Hobart, IN., where he made many friends and spent his time praising God. Ernie will be remembered as a very loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend to many.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Cherie (fiancee Curt Lechner) and his three sons, Vince (Bronica), John (Desiree) and Brian; four grandchildren, Kayliana, Giada, Timothy and Makayla; Three great grandkids, Sierra, Charles and Jaiden; Two brothers, Ed and Bob Beechin; sister, Beverly; many nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. Ernie was a very well-known respected man and looked up to by many. Many of the friends to his kids would call him Dad as they had a love for Ernie.
Ernie was preceded in death by his lovely wife Darlene (nee Wallace) Beechin; his parents and brothers, Bill and Jay Beechin.
Ernie was known for many things; His love, respect and devotion to his wife, she was his world, they had a strong beautiful marriage that many sought after. When he first met Darlene, he told her he was going to marry her and she thought, who is this crazy good looking Italian man, the rest is a beautiful history of their marriage of 47 years. Ernie was always a man of his word; his word was his bond at all times. He was a man others could always count on. They knew he would do what he said he'd do. Having the ability to affect others around him with positivity and was always there for anyone. He liked to tell many stories of his life growing up, they were all wonderful to hear. Being in Ernie's life made huge impacts on so many, he was always one to want to be around. One of his known ways was to make people laugh, Ernie loved making his loved ones happy, laugh and feel loved. And that he did so well. He enjoyed teaching his sons the construction trade and them working for him for many years, along with many of their friends. He also enjoyed going to his sons, whom were very close with, Vince and Johns, baseball games as they were growing up and in his later years got to spend time watching his future son-in-law, Curt Lechner, play baseball. He was a big Baseball fan. Watched the Cubs and others games on T.V. a lot. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Cherie, his Princess forever. They were very close and always had fun together and would spend hours talking and laughing. For many years, Ernie spent a lot of time with his wife, Darlene and Cherie in the Elvis world, Ernie made many friends there too. He loved watching Curt perform his Elvis shows and was always a help with many things. A very close family indeed.
A funeral service for Ernie will take place Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Pastor David Stovall officiating. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Visitation will be held from Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
