Esther Louise Spitzer, age 86 a longtime resident of Hobart passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. She was the second of five daughters born to James and Louise Stewart. Esther was born in East Chicago, Indiana on November 21, 1926. Esther was employed by the Hobart School System and was a member of the Parents and Friends of Fort Wayne. Esther was known for her love of being with her family, playing games, camping, traveling, crafting and just being at the cabin.
Esther was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Spitzer; her parents and sisters, Ruth Hasler, Mary Pearce, and Sarah Johnston.
She is survived by her daughters: Linda (Jerry) Key, Geri (Ben) Gallardo, Jane Spitzer, sister, Clara LaReau, 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Eby, Jamie Tengdin, Rebecca Key, Jason Key, Nathan Key, Ben Gallardo, Jeremy Gallardo, Alisha Sanchez, and Jillian Gallardo, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday September 6, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Funeral services are Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart with Rev. Jeff Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.
