Obituary

Eugene Joseph Bruszewski, age 90, of Hobart, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He was born on November 17, 1935, in the Tolleston section of Gary, Indiana, to the late Julius and Theresa (née Naminski) Bruszewski.

A 1953 graduate of Wheeler High School, Eugene went on to earn certification as an Instrument Technician from Valparaiso Technical Institute. He dedicated 50 years of service to U.S. Steel Gary Works, beginning at just 17 years old as a laborer in #20 Merchant. His career advanced through the Open Hearth Division as an Instrument Repair Technician for Mills #I through #V, and he finished his career at #I B.O.P. and Caster as an Expeditor and Vicing Foreman. Eugene was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #1014.

At only 28 years old, Eugene began building his own home by hand- a true testament to his determination and work ethic.
