EUGENE H. "GENE" NOWAK, age 85, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Gene was a Hobart resident for 54 years and was a Coast Guard Veteran. He retired from US Steel and was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church in New Chicago. Gene was also a member of American Legion Post #207.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judith, 2 sons, Rev. David G. Nowak of East Chicago, Gregory (Therese) Nowak of Downers Grove, IL, daughter, Lorrie (Thomas) Geer of Bozeman, Montana, 6 grandchildren, sister, Evelyn Gianinno of Elkhart, sister-in-law, Molly Nowak of Orlando, FL and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Sr. & Cecilia Nowak, daughter, Kathleen Nowak and brother, John Nowak, Jr. In lieu of flowers contributions for family wishes would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 7, 2010 beginning with 10:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart and then proceeding to Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with Bishop Dale J. Melczek presiding and Rev. David G. Nowak, celebrant and Rev. Lourdu Pasala, con-celebrant.
