Eugene "Gene" L. Steerman, age 85, of Lake Station, IN, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Gene was born on March 10, 1937 in Wildcat, WV to the late Hugh and Sylvia (nee Rexroad) Steerman.  He owned his own tree cutting business for over 20 years.  Gene married the love of his life, Mary Smith, on June 21, 1958 and they spent 60 years together until her passing in 2019.  Gene liked to garden and enjoyed doing anything outside.

Gene is survived by his children: Cindy (Ronald) Dudzinski of Lake Station, IN and Michael (Wendy) Steerman of Brant, MI; grandchildren: Candy (Sebastian) Collazo of Lake Station, IN, Jennifer (George) Mendez of Portage, IN, Mary Powers of Lake Station, IN, Bethia (Jay) VanAusdal of Mishawaka, IN, and John Steerman of Brant, MI; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother: Kenneth (late Biddie) Steerman of Minford, OH; and his beloved dog: Sammie.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife: Mary; parents: Hugh and Sylvia; and 13 siblings.

Cremation and arrangements are entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel.
