Evelyn P. Morton

Evelyn P. Morton (née Picon), age 96, of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, 2026. She was born on February 26, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Daniel and Edith (née Brewer) Picon. Evelyn was a proud graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1949. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially playing games on the computer, visiting the casino, and trying her luck with lottery scratch-offs. In her younger years, Evelyn cherished traveling the world alongside her beloved husband, William, creating memories in many different countries. Evelyn will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with her family.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia (Tom) Curran and Deborah (Richard) Gossett; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory forward.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William Blanton Morton, Sr.; her sons, William Morton, Jr. and Douglas Clifton Morton; her grandson, James Morton; and her siblings, Dorothy, Louise, Richard, and Nancy.

A funeral service for Evelyn will be held Monday, May 11, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Portage, Indiana 46368. A burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will also be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
