Farris Benton Smith

Farris Benton Smith, age 91, of Lake Station, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1926 to the late John James and Velma Alice (nee Farris) Smith. Farris was a retiree of U.S Steel/American Bridge, where he worked as a Punch Press Operator for 25 yrs. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by two sons, Charles (Terry) Smith, Kerry (Eunice) Smith; daughter, Alison "Renee" (William) Washington; eight grandchildren, Hank (Chris) Smith, Charlene (Joseph) Weems, Holly (Brandon) Hester, Tina (Ken) Runions, Kerry Lee (Cathy) Smith, Stephanie Fisher, Daniel (Breanne Alexander) Fisher, John (Charlene Szparaga) Fisher; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Austin (Jessica), Breann, Morgan (Jeffrey), Dylan, DJ, Kaylane, Charlie and Georgia; two great-great grandchildren, Baylee and Lennox; sister, Lily Mae Hillard and many other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Smith; his parents; three brothers, Herman, James and Otha Smith; two sisters, Geraldine Hadley and Margie Jackson.
A funeral service for Farris will be Friday, April 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana with Pastor Don Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart.
