Olive Fern (nee Wineinger) Goodwin, age 88 of Hobart passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022. She was born on July 14, 1933 in Cuzco, Indiana to the late Levi C. and Olive Jane Wineinger. She retired from Mays Corporation where she worked as a bookkeeper. Fern was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kostbade Fowble VFW Post# 5365. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was an avid Cubs fan. When her daughters were in school, she never missed the opportunity to serve as room mother for their field trips. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved hosting holidays at her house, especially the Fourth of July.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Cory) Smith, Kathy (Phillip) Fugate; grandchildren, Aaron (Sara Herff) Smith, Kristen Smith, Michael (Katie) Smith, Katie (Bryan) Garrett, Peggie (Ryan Bishop) Fugate, John Fugate, Robert (Kellie) Fugate, Amanda (Michael) Roccaforte; 17 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister, Betty Carns; sisters-in-law, Esther Wineinger, Clarice Wineinger; very close friends, Cheryl Campbell, Ron Northey, Jay Marrs.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Earl "Red" Goodwin; parents, Levi and Olive Jane Wineinger; brothers, Eugene (Betty) Wineinger, Paul (Clara) Wineinger, Clarence (Helen) Wineinger, Floyd Wineinger, Leroy Wineinger, Marvin (Margaret) Wineinger; brother in law, Margel Carns; and great grandson, Wyatt Garrett.
A funeral service for Fern will take place Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
