Frances Harris

Frances Harris, age 92, a longtime resident of Portage passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011. She was born on March 25, 1919 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Frank and Ludwicka Augustyn. She was married to James R. Harris on September 25, 1937 at Saint Hedwigs Catholic Church in Gary. Frances was a member and served as the secretary of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage. She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. Frances was very involved as a poll worker for elections in the Garyton area for many years.

Frances is survived by her loving family; son James (Susan) Harris, Chesterton, grandchildren Joy (Joe) Slogar, Suzanne Jessup, Tony (fiancé Deana) Harris, and Mark (fiancé Ali) Harris, great grandchildren Jimmy Slogar and Jennifer Slogar, and other loving family and dear friends. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Harris, her daughter Marjorie Jessup, sisters Viola Yesh and Florence Pisarski, and brothers Valentine, Adolph, and Edward Augustyn.

A visitation for Frances Harris will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Frances' memory may be given for masses to be said at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church.
