Franklin D. Beshears, Sr., age 84, of Zionsville, IN and formerly of Portage, IN passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Franklin was born on January 14, 1938 to the late William and Annie (nee Prince) Beshears.  He worked as a Millwright with LTV Steel for over 35 years and retired in 2002.  He married the love of his life, Jean (nee Westerlund) Beshears, on March 15, 1963 and spent 42 wonderful years together until her passing in 2004.  Franklin was a Navy Veteran and was stationed on Midway Island for 3 years, fixing planes and never once setting foot on a ship.

Franklin was a member of the American Legion Post #260.  He was also a longtime member of Hobart First Christian Church and South Haven Christian Church.  In his spare time, Franklin enjoyed woodworking.  He built chairs, cedar trunks, beds, and other small furniture.  He had almost every tool ever made and was an expert at fixing things.  He was a diligent gardener, watering and caring for his favorite snack: tomatoes.  Franklin was a loving husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, dear brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Franklin is survived by his children: Franklin Beshears, Jr. and Lisa (Dan) Stanley; grandchildren: Chet (Jessica), Jeana, Rhylee, Cal, and Justine; great-grandchildren: Branson and Norah; brothers: Paul (Sandra) Beshears and Hugh Beshears; and many nieces and nephews.

Franklin was preceded in death by his wife: Jean; parents: William and Annie; and siblings: Lonnie, J.L. Willie, and Eula.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Homes, Olson Chapel (5341 Central Ave., Portage) from 10:00-12:00 on Friday, September 9, 2022. A Funeral Service will take place directly following visitation at 12:00 P.M. At Rest, Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Franklins name are preferred to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.
