Obituary

Fred Lewis Newman, age 65, of Lake Station passed away Saturday June 17, 2023, in his home. He was born December 28, 1957, in Gary, Indiana to the late Lewis and Genevieve (Parr) Newman. Fred retired from directing and producing local cable programing for Cable Networks. He was very active in Lake Station politics and events. He was very active with the Four Girls Project, even helping to establish the Four Girls Scholarship Fund. He loved photography of the Lake Station area even though he was considered legally blind. He enjoyed Ham Radio; he also was a former member of a Morse Code Club. He loved music, especially Neil Young. Fred had a well-developed sense of humor which he was never afraid to share.

He is survived by the love of his life Marsha Moore; one sister, Virginia Adams of Kentucky; two nieces; four nephews; eight great nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews; special life-long friends, the Bianco Family including Tony Bianco. He also loved his dogs Streaker and Cloe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cynthia Cathcart; and two brothers-in-law.

Fred wished to be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
