Frederick "Fred" M. Barcenas, age 75, of Michigan City, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. He was born in Gary, Indiana on November 22, 1941 to the late Joseph and Susana (nee Mendoza) Barcenas. Fred was a mentor for Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a hardworking, well-loved father and grandfather who will be remembered as a wise, classy, caring, and funny man who will be greatly missed by many.
Fred is survived by his son, Fred (Monica) Barcenas; daughters, Lynnette (Trent) Roseberry, Melissa (Anthony) Ortiz; grandchildren, Angelina and Natalia Barcenas, Caleb, Jacob and Jaxon Roseberry, Juliana Ortiz; siblings, Maria Baxter, Juanita (Eddie) Ramirez, Susie (Eddie) Piatkoneski, David (Teresa) Soto, Carlos (Adeline) Escabalzeta, Debbie Garcia (Escabalzeta), Jessie (Hector) Holguin, Connie Escabalzeta, Cris Escabalzeta, Clara Farmer (Escabalzeta), Paul Escabalzeta; aunt, Mary DeLeon (Barcenas); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Barcenas; mother, Susana Escabalzeta; and siblings, Joseph Barcenas, Julian Escabalzeta.
A memorial service for Fred will take place Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Genesis Christian Church, 2328 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, IN 46342 with Pastor Juaquin Rodriguez. Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday, prior to the service, from 4-5 pm at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 219-942-2109.
