Frederick Albin Swantko "Dad the Hammer"

Age 78, of Hobart passed away April 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 24,1946, in East Chicago, IN to the late Albin and Margaret (nee Gyemont) Swantko. He was a 1965 Hammond High School graduate. Frederick married the love of his life Theresa Pietrzak on August 24, 1974, in Crown Point. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1965-1969. Frederick retired from Nipsco with 43 yrs. of service and was very proud to be in the USW Local 12775. Frederick was a hardworking, family man, and a wonderful provider. He always put his family first, coaching softball and basketball for his girls. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, giving his girls a hard time, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 yrs. Theresa (nee Pietrzak) Swantko; three beautiful daughters, Wendy (Carson) Green, Gwendolyn (Derrick) Bauer, and Dawn (Derek) Vanbuskirk; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Weikel, Gus and Mark Green, Henrik and, Amelia Bauer, Peter, Patrick, and Phillip Vanbuskirk; sister, Marcia O'Sullivan; sister-in-law, Wanda Swantko and many other loving family members and friends.

He is preceded by his parents Albin and Margaret Swantko; brother, Gregory Swantko and sister, Marjorie Sakal.
