Gary J. Shaffner, age 66 of Lake Station passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016. He was born on October 6, 1949 in Gary, Indiana to the late Jack and Edith Shaffner. Gary was a longtime Miller and Lake Station resident. He retired from U.S. Steel with 30 years of service as an Electrician. He also worked at Jack's Loan Office in Gary. He was a member of the Portage Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 100, and the Hobart Eagles. He bowled at Rays Lanes in the mixed league. Gary enjoyed airplane piloting, motorcycle riding, camping, spending time with his family, and scuba diving.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela S. Shaffner, three sons, Jeremy (Marlena Wilson) Shaffner, Joshua (Patty) Shaffner, both of Montgomery County, MD; Michael Willis, one daughter, Lisha (Adrian) Vera, one sister, Gail (Jerry) Calvin, one brother, Mark Shaffner, grandchildren, Isaac Joseph, Isabel Rose, Noah Jacob, Elijah Reed, Caleb Jaron, A.J., Carter, and Emily.

Funeral services are Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station with Pete Kersker officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 2 pm to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel. Call (219) 962-1606.
