George H. Baker, age 84, of Hobart passed away Tuesday September 20, 2016 at St. Mary Medical Center. George was born February 22, 1932 in Tarentum, PA to the late Homer and Hazel (Church) Baker. He retired from Georgia Pacific Tissue Division as a supervisor. George was an US Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He loved bowling, reading and watching westerns on TV.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; one daughter, Barbara (James) Patton of Valparaiso; three sons, George Baker, Jr. of Valparaiso, Donald (Kym) Baker of Lake Station and Jack (Wendy) Baker of Lowell; five granddaughters, Jessica (Brian) Mount, Jaclyn (Tyler) Przybysz, Traci (Mike) Cavanaugh, Ashley (Jeff) Mogan and Jamie (R.J.) Rochford; six great grandchildren Caleb, Chloe, Rachael, Ava, Alayna and Zachary; two brothers, Thomas Baker of Merrillville and James Baker of Romeoville, IL; one sister, Martha Brown of White Settlement, TX; special friends Donna, Russ and Zach.
George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald Baker and one great granddaughter Alexis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Friday September 23, 2016 at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342 with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be from 2-7 pm Friday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans.
