Obituary

George G. Blystone, age 86, of Lake Station passed away Monday January 12, 2015 at his daughters home in Hobart. George was born January 9, 1929 in Waterman, Pennsylvania to the late Gilbert "Bert" and Louise (Marsh) Blystone. George was a steelworker that retired from US Steel. He also worked as a school crossing guard in Lake Station for many years. George was a devoted member of Community United Presbyterian Church in Lake Station. George was known as the "Candy Man". He received The Golden Hoosier Award and was recognized for his meritorious service to the young citizens and community of Lake Station by the Chamber of Commerce with a Spirit award. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army.
George is survived by three daughters Jennifer (Terry) Handley of Crossville, TN, Nikki (Dan) DeHaven of Portage and Georgette (Jerry) Mayes of Hobart; his brother William Blystone of Valparaiso; seven grandchildren Eric (Lynn) Handley, Jeremy (Jinka) DeHaven, Dr. Jordan (Tami) DeHaven, Ashlie (Chris) Miller, Daniel (Erika) DeHaven, Harthe (Bryan) Peterson and Brooke (Matthew) Valois; 10 great grandchildren Nicholas Handley, Sarah Crizer, Nathan Handley, Tyler Miller, Grace Miller, Adam DeHaven, Myles Dehaven, Blake Peterson, Alec Peterson and Jules Valois; two great great grandchildren Reid and Ross Handley; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday January 14, 2015 at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana with Pastor Roger Hartzler officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday 1/13/15 at the funeral home.
