George Allen Doolin Jr, 81, of Merrillville, IN, passed away Sunday, May 28th, 2023 at Brickyard Healthcare in Portage, IN. He was born on August 4, 1941, in Gary, IN, son of George and Catherine (Smith) Doolin. He attended high school at River Forrest High School, after which he enlisted and served in the Navy. Having just celebrated 60 years together, George married his high school sweetheart, Christine (Milenkoff) Doolin on January 26, 1963, and they raised two sons, George and John. George loved his family and enjoyed attending high school athletic events that his sons participated in with his brother and brother-in-law every chance he could get. George was an amazing cook, an avid Cubs and Bears fan, loved fishing during family vacations in Rhinelander, WI, and it could be said that there were very few auctions or estate sales that he missed!
He is survived by his wife, Christine, of Merrillville, and son George (Kathy Kahle) of Dubuque,
IA, his brother Bill (Barb) Doolin, of Hobart, sister Sharon (Steve) Shiyan, of Hobart, as well as
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Doolin, his parents, George and Catherine, brothers
Don and James, sisters Judy (Tom Ellis), Patty (Carol "Spike" Kelley), Barbara (Jack Durr), and
Marcine (Chris Scalchas).
There will be no visitation but a Celebration of Life for immediate family to honor George at a
later date.
The family wishes to thank the Dr's and nurses of St Mary's Medical Center, the staff at
Brickyard Healthcare, and Hospice for their care and compassion shown to George. Also, they
wish to give a special note of sincere appreciation to George and Tina's Merrillville neighbors
for all the kindness and help they've given and continue to give.
