Glinos
August 26, 1939 – October 31, 2023
George Glinos, age 84, of Hobart and formerly of Indiana Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
George was born on August 26, 1939 in East Chicago, "The Harbor", to the late George E. and Anne (nee Worona) Glinos. He attended East Chicago Washington High School, Class of 1957. George worked as a General Foreman in Plant 2 Mills at Inland Steel for 34 years. He also worked at the Merrillville OTB Parlour for 23 years. George was a proud Veteran of the Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. He met his future wife, Patricia Oliver, through the apartment building that their families owned during childhood. It wasn't until George left the service that he and Patricia got together and married on June 2, 1962. Together they attended Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church.
George was an avid baseball player and fan. "Greek" was a member of the IAA and played on the baseball team for many years. George coached his children through baseball and girls' softball with the city of Hobart. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan since 1946 and a season ticket holder for the Chicago Bears. Most of all, George was a loving father, devoted papu, dear brother, uncle, and friend to many.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat; children: George Glinos, Beth Ann (Ed) Lobach, John (Laura) Glinos, Christine (Al) Salazar, Nicole Glinos, and Tricia Glinos; grandchildren: George (Kayla), Amelia, Michal Elizabeth (Kasey), Jessica, Nicholas, Andrew (Tori), Alexis (Alex), Francesca, Max, Nicole (Jonathan), Angela (Ian) and Jeff; ten great-grandchildren with one more on the way; siblings: Mena (Gust) Bafaloukas and Irene (Nic) Mihailidis; siblings-in-law: Kathleen (Desi) Benkovich, Susan (Steve) Cohen, and John (Mary Kay) Oliver; many nieces and nephews: Goddaughter: Jennifer Johnson; and beloved dogs: Jack, Finnegan, and Maggie.
George is preceded in death by his parents: George and Anne; great-granddaughter: Rylee; brother: Timothy Glinos; parents-in-law: John and Anne Oliver; and sister-in-law: Rosemary Oliver Boswell.
Family and friends may gather at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church (2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage) on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 9:00-10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following visitation at 10:00 A.M. After mass, military funeral honors will be conducted. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glinos Family.
