Obituary

George Richard Mullin, age 59, of Portage, IN, born on August 22, 1961 in Chicago Heights, IL to the late Edward and Alberta Mullin, passed away suddenly, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 30, 2021.

George was a one-of-a-kind man.  One that would give you his shirt of his back; the pocket would be full of cigarette ashes but he wouldn't hesitate to offer if it was needed.

George was a friend to everyone.  His laugh and "be easy" mantra will forever be remembered to those who knew him.  He had a way of nicknaming everyone or at the very least, acknowledged you by first and last name as soon as he walked through a door.

George is survived by daughter: Kristen (Kyle); granddaughters: Kenzie and Everleigh; daughter: Maggie; brothers: Joe (Mary), Bill (Jenny), and Mike (Debbie); nieces; nephews; cousins; significant other: Judy Evans; and many extended family members, friends, and loved ones.  He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Alberta Mullin; brother: Charlie (Lisa); sister: Carolyn; and his grandparents.

George was a proud father and papa.  He will be remembered as a man who could fill a room with jokes and smiles.  His sense of humor and wit will go unmatched as he could sit in the corner of a crowded room, leg crossed, cigarette in one hand and Pepsi in the other, and find laughter or something to smile about in any situation.  He was an instigator of joking around or horseplay with the boys.  You could always count on his honest opinion and he ALWAYS responded to everything with "be easy" in a raspy, deep, playful tone and smile on his face.

George loved riding his Harley side by side with his brothers and friends or traveling with his girlfriend, Judy, while living free and enjoying the wind in his wavy, disheveled hair.  He drove a semitruck and honored his daughters and granddaughters with a personalization on his truck.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to work on others trucks or projects.  He always boasted about his family and made sure that everyone's needs came before his own.  He was truly a selfless man.

George was loved by all who met him.  He was funny, full of laughter and could make anyone laugh.  He was a reliable man; you could always count on him to be at every function with family or friends and always made it to special events for his daughters and granddaughters.  His brothers were his best friends, and their bond was stronger than imaginable.

Even in his last days, George was cracking jokes and filling the room with laughter.  He didn't allow his pain to take away from making others happy and smile.  George was always playful and as an avid animal impersonator- making frog croaks and duck quacks and even elephant or squealing pig noises to get a giggle out of anyone.

Let's remember and honor George the way he would have wanted.  Please help us celebrate his life on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 2:00-8:00 P.M. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel (5341 Central Ave, Portage).  A funeral service will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Scott Jones officiating.
