George Orris, age 71, of Portage passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St Mary Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1942 in Oakdale, PA to the late Clifton and Phyllis Orris. From 1960-1966 he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry. He retired from SerSteel and was a member of the Laborer's Union Local 81. George worked for many years at the City of Portage Animal Control and Parks Department. He was the former manager of the Hobart Kentucky Fried Chicken and the Holiday Inn in Portage. For 47 years he was a member of the American Legion Post 260 in Portage. George is a past president of the Portage Civil Defense Police and the Portage Exchange Club. He was a proud member of the FOP, a Porter County Sheriff's Deputy and 3rd Precinct Committeeman. George is survived by his wife, Dianne; sons, Kenneth (Becky) Orris and Charles Troup; daughter, Tammi (Tom) Harvey; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Clifton Orris; sisters, Phyllis (August) Voye and Connie (Ted) Josie.
