George L. Otano, age 93, of Merrillville, IN passed away Thursday April 20th, 2023.

He was born in Lares, Puerto Rico on September 29th, 1929, to Isidoro and Ines Otano. George worked as a Laborer in the Open Hearth furnace at Inland Steel for 30 years. After retiring from the mill, George became a real estate property investor and managed several rental properties over the years. He was a devoted member of Christian Revival Center in Merrillville, IN.

George was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved watching their games. Everybody loved George, as he always had a sweet treat in his pocket for anyone who asked. He was a beloved father, loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and even great-great-grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a brother: Eler; six children: Louis Otano, Aurora (Bryan) Valentine, Irma (Ed) Plug, Raul (Denise) Otano, Olga (Jim) Elia, Iris Cyrus; 15 grandchildren: James, Heather, Matthew, Lauren, Kelly, Brittany, Jonathan, Sammy, Hannah, Rachel, Joshua, Alexandra, Jared, Jesse, and Zachary; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Isidoro and Ines; four siblings: Jose, Ismael, Lydia, Juan: his ex-wife Rosa, his youngest son Robert Otano, and his grandson Kevin Plug.

Family and friends may gather at Christian Revival Center (805 W 57 ^th Ave. Merrillville) on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Christian Revival Center at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Otano officiating A Visitation will take place prior to funeral service from 10:00-11:00 A.M. At Rest, Ridgelawn Cemetery.
