Gerald "Jerry" D. Mantta, age 84,of Portage, formerly of Chassell, MI, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at home. Jerry was born in Hancock Michigan on June 2, 1932 to the late Clyde Alfred and Adele (nee Peterson) Mantta. Jerry grew up in Tapiola, Michigan. He was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers, Local 150.
Jerry is survived by daughter, Lynette Mantta of Tapiola, MI; son, Steve (Debbie) Mantta of lake Station, IN; granddaughters, Shannon Chosa, Kristin Mantta, Stephanie (Steve) Medsker; great grandchildren, Blake Chosa, Austin Medsker, Alex and Kyle Tothfalusi; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth (nee Suojanen) Mantta; brother, John Mantta; and his parents.

A memorial service for Jerry will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W Old Ridge Rd, Hobart, IN 46342 with a eulogy read by granddaughter, Kristin Mantta.
