Geraldine M. Gaddis, age 82 of Portage passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. She was born on July 16, 1933 in Gary, Indiana. Geraldine worked for the City of Portage as the Secretary to the Planning Commissioner, retiring in 1995. She was a co-owner of Suburban Ceramics. Geraldine was a loving and compassionate lady who enjoyed fishing, gardening and classical music. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends and watching the Chicago Bulls.

She is survived by two children, Susan (Ben Houser) Boger of Valparaiso, IN; Richard Schafer of Portage, IN; two step-sons, Donald Gaddis of Valparaiso, IN; Ken Gaddis of WA; one step-daughter, Lisa Gaddis of Valparaiso, IN; three brothers, Peter (Kathy) Piazza of Crown Point, IN; Russell Long of IL; John Somers of Lava Hot Springs, ID; four sisters, Gina (Dan) Schupp of Kimberly, WI; Martha (Stu) Fleck of Whitefish Bay, WI; Diane Shay of Portage, IN; Janet (Frank) Bunchek of MN; six grandchildren, Kristan, Ashley, Richard G., Ryan, Rachel, and Lauren, one great-grandson, Caden, special friend, Jay Hassett of Valparaiso, IN; special friend and caregiver, Tina LaRue of Portage, IN; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Gaddis, father, Peter (Lucille) Piazza, and mother, Josephine (Russell) Long, and one brother, Joe (Dorothy) Piazza.
Funeral services are Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Rev. Donald Good officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
