Gertrude J Lizak, age 102, was called home on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at the Wittenberg Village in Crown Point, Indiana.  Gertrude was born March 21, 1916 in Knox, Indiana to the late Charles and Mimi (Schmidt) Jana.  She retired from the School City of Hobart after 29 years of service as a custodian.  She was a member of St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Station.  She was a former member of the Bonner Senior Center in Portage, The Lake Station Senior Club, the ladies Sodality at the Church,  the Northwest Indiana Retirees Club, the Lake Station Historical Society, the Slovak Club Ladies Auxiliary, and the Lake Station Chamber of Commerce.

Gertrude is survived by one step son, John Lizak of Kentucky; two step daughters-in-law Mary Lizak of Hobart and Barbara Lizak of Cedar Lake; six grandchildren, Frank Lizak, Jr., Christopher Lizak, Jeffery Lizak, Sue Schultz, Donald Stalhandske and Donna Richards; eight great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Arthur Jana and Roger Jana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands Carl Stalhandske and Joseph Lizak; one son, Edwin stalhandske; two step sons, Alojz Lizak and Frank Lizak; and ten brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin Tuesday October 23, 2018 with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel 3781 Central Avenue Lake Station, IN 46405 and processing to St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church at 2447 Putnam Street at 10:00 am.  Rev. David Kime will officiate.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 to 7:00 pm with a 6:00 pm Rosary at the Funeral Home
