Gilbert Paul Schur, age 85, of Portage passed away Sunday June 28, 2015 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Gilbert was born March 8, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Rubin and Sylvia (Foreman) Schur. He retired as a supervisor at Ben's Meat Packing and prior to this he was a milkman for Hawthorne Melody Dairies. Gilbert enjoyed going to Off Track Racing, the thrill of scratch offs, and sharing his vast wisdom with his children and grandchildren. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Gilbert is survived by six children, Nathan (Cheryl) Schur of Greenfield, David (Linda) Schur of Lansing, IL, Ralph (Mary) Schur of Murietta, CA, Laura (Richard) Rebot of Chicago, IL, Mary (Roland) Junod of Chicago, IL and Aletia (Paul) Podlecki of Portage; two brothers Morton (Regina "Jean") Schur of North Brook, IL and Burton Schur of Skokie, IL; nine grandchildren Daniel, Melody, Pam, Tony, Steven, Melissa, David, Sara and Allen; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Beryl.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 1, 2015 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm concluding with a prayer at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368. Graveside services and burial will occur at 3:30 pm Wednesday in Shalom Memorial Park 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
