Gloria Newman (nee French), age 83 of Hobart, passed away August 9, 2023. She was born on May 21, 1940, in Princeton, Kentucky to the late Archella and Minnie French. On October 5, 1963 she married Leslie Newman in Princeton, KY. She was a member of Barrington Ridge Baptist Church and dedicated her life to taking care of her family.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Newman; daughter, Janet Artka; grandchildren, Nicole (Cade Calhoun)  Artka, Anthony Artka; great grandchild, Kaizen Calhoun; many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Newman; and two sisters, Dema Short, Wanda Babb.

Gloria was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was caring and always willing to lend a hand or her wisdom. She loved to read and watch game shows. Gloria enjoyed crocheting and sitting on her porch swing during the warmer days before journaling her day at night.

A funeral service for Gloria will take place Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 6:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in a private ceremony.
