Gloria Smith

Gloria Smith, age 83, of Winamac, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026. She was born on February 14, 1943, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Gust and Margaret (née Sabo) Christoff. Gloria retired from Super K, where she worked as a cashier for many years. A devoted Catholic, she was a faithful member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Valparaiso. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found comfort and strength in her church community. Gloria found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time reading a good book, keeping up with current events by watching the news, and enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she delighted in the warmth, traditions, and time spent with her family during the holiday season.She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and the love she shared with those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Margaret (née Sabo) Christoff; her daughter, Dawn George; and her two brothers, Edward Carrido and Robert Carrido.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, George Janes George; her daughter, Elizabeth George; her sister, Margaret Brooks; two granddaughters, Brittney (Austin Williams) Flores and Brianna (Jacob) Flores; eight great-grandchildren, Jayden, Easton, Aubreyella Flores, Santino Flores, Cipriana Flores, Aramis Flores, and Ezekiel Flores; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Per Gloria’s wishes there will be no services held. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel and Cremation Services are entrusted with cremation.
