Obituary

GONZALO V. SOTO, age 74, of Chesterton, and formerly of Lake Station, passed away June 29, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 14, 1941 in Lares, Puerto Rico. He served in the US Army and was a retiree of Inland Steel. Gonzalo was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and the Holy Name Society. He will be remembered as a loving family man with a big and generous heart.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Delia (nee Lopez); 2 sons, Gonzalo Jr. (Bernadette) Soto of Nekoosa, WI and Michael (Erica) Soto of Chesterton; 2 daughters, Mercedes Soto of Cambridge, MA and Delia (Philip) Soto-Lane of Wyoming, MI; 10 grandchildren, Michael and Jazmin Soto, Alissa, Miranda, Anthony and Victoria Lane, Angel Cotto, Noah, Shawn and Ethan Soto; 1 great grandchild, Ariya; 4 brothers, Felix Vera, Miguel Soto, Louis, and David Vera; 5 sisters, Delia Vega, Brunilda Traverzo, Rose Cruz, Gladys Ramirez, Nelida De la Cruz; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gonzalo was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador Vera Soto and Monserrate Hernandez Veléz; and 2 sisters, Mercedes Lopez and Margot Torres.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station, with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W.
