Gonzalo Salazar, age 86, of Portage, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was born March 5, 1928 in Puerto Rico. Gonzalo attended Nativity of our Savior Catholic Church in Portage. He retired from Inland Steel in 1988 where he worked in the 12" Bar Mill.

Gonzalo is survived by his sons, Fred (Migdalia) Salazar and Gonzalo Bonilla; daughters, Evelyn Salazar, Mildred Salazar and Maria Salazar; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Margarita Bonilla Salazar and one son, Adrian Bonilla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, with visitation there from 9:00 am until the time of service. Father Andrew Corona will officiate. Gonzalo will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will take place Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
