Gregorio Serrano, age 65, of East Chicago, and formerly of Portage, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital. He was born on November 7, 1949 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico. Greg proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Arcelor Mittal after 38 years of service. He was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed cheering on the Boston Celtics, the LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, Notre Dame Football, and IU Basketball.
He is survived by his special longtime companion: Irene Ortiz; sisters: Herminia (Angel Luis) Martinez of Puerto Rico, Gloria (Eligio Jr.) Morales of Portage, Andrea Serrano of Puerto Rico, Aida (Martin) Munoz of Portage, Elena (Luis) de Jesus of Chicago, Milagros Serrano and Wanda Gomez of Puerto Rico; also survived by his sister in law: Ena Serrano; very loving niece: Ileana Rivera; nephews: Jaime Serrano and Luis Colon and many other nieces and nephews.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents: Eligio Soto and Maria Rivera; sister: Julia Colon; brothers: George and Juan Serrano; brother in law: Felix.
A memorial service for Greg will take place Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Lake Station Baptist Church, 2801 Central Avenue, Lake Station with Rev. Orlando Toledo officiating.
