Guadalupe "Lou" Perez, age 79 of Portage, passed away Wednesday evening at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 12, 1944, in Donna, Texas to the late Joe and Rebecca (nee Yanez) Perez. After three years of dating, Lou married the love of his life, Connie Charo on July 8, 1965, and they spent 59 loving years together. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church and a Local Union 81 member. He graduated from Washington High School graduate in 1964 and retired from EJ&E Railroad, where he worked as a switchman for 25 years. Lou was a history buff, avid reader, enjoyed caring for his yard, watching Jeopardy, also loved going out to try different ethnic foods and going to the movies with his family. Most of all Lou loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie (nee Charo) Perez; son, Xavier (Pearl) Perez; daughter, Nannette (Scott) Pachol; two brothers, Rudy (Marie) Costello, and John (Jackie) Costello; two sisters, Mary Ellen Costello and Annette (Dan) Kimmet, and four grandchildren, Zachary (Sarah) Pachol, Isaac Perez, Desiree (Caleb) Shafer and Aaron Pachol.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gilbert Costello.
A celebration of Lou's life will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11 am at Portage United Pentecostal Church, 2865 Willowdale Rd. Portage, Indiana 46368.
