Obituary

Guillermina (Mina) Serratto Nunez, age 87, of Portage, was called to God on Friday, June 8, 2012. Mina was born on February 9, 1925 in Mathis, Texas to Agapito Serratto and Virginia (nee Hernandez) Serratto. The family moved to Monterrey, Mexico and eventually settled in Gary, Indiana where she graduated from Emerson High School, class of 1946. She was a member of St. Anthony Church and active in the Settlement House. On April 11, 1953 Mina married Ines Nunez. She enjoyed staying active as a member of many clubs including: Barriero/Serratto VFW Post #7237, Sociedad Mutualista Mexico and Golden Age Club. She was active in Democratic Politics in Gary. Mina was very active in her next parish at her beloved Ss. Monica & Luke Catholic Church where she was President of the Guadalupe Committee, promoting the faith and devotion to the Virgen de Guadalupe. She was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary at Ss. Monica & Luke. To the end she showed great strength while battling cancer and other infirmities. Mina was loved by many and we are grateful to have had such a lovely soul for so long!
Mina is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ines R. Nunez, 5 children: Linda (Gilbert) Dominguez, Ninon (Orlando) Gamez, Diana (Pete) Moreno, Ricardo Nunez and Joe Nunez, 7 grandchildren: Gina (David) Bowen; Crystal (Victor) Morales; Leo, Alex & Tomas Dominguez; Estephan & Isabel Gamez, 4 great grandchildren: Davey & Sean Bowen; Vincent & Christian Morales, numerous nieces & nephews and many close friends. Her parents, Agapito & Virginia Serratto and brothers, Leo, John and Jose, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, beginning with prayers at 10:15 am and then proceeding to SS. Monica and Luke Catholic Church, 645 Rhode Island, Gary, for a 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Pat Gaza celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-9 pm with a 5:00 pm Rosary at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 219-942-2109 or online, www.reesfuneralhomes.com
