Guillermo Gutierrez

Guillermo Gutierrez, age 86, of Portage, IN, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022.

Guillermo was born on November 18, 1935 in Gary, IN to the late Concepcion and Elvira Gutierrez.  He was a graduate of Portage High School, Class of 1954.  Guillermo proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He retired from BP Amoco after 25 years of service and worked as a VA Clerk at Adam Benjamin Jr. VA Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point for 12 years.

Guillermo was a loving brother, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was an avid sports fan.  Guillermo loved the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football (GO IRISH!), the Chicago Bears, IU Basketball, and also enjoyed watching boxing.

Guillermo is survived by his children: Mark, Michael (Angela) William, Antonio, Erik, Shirin and Casey; grandchildren: Ashley, Cody, K.C., Brandon, Ciara, Bella, Neena, Michael Jr., Noah, and Alysha; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister: Rebecca Gutierrez.

Guillermo was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Manuel DeLeon, Hector DeLeon, Stella Marentes, and Paula Cranford.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel (5341 Central Ave, Portage) on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 2:00-7:00 P.M. and from 12:00 P.M.-1:00P.M. Saturday.  A Time of Sharing will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from Rees Olson Chapel at 1:00 P.M.  At Rest, Calvary Cemetery.

In celebration of Guillermo's life, please wear your favorite sports apparel or something bright and colorful. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Guillermo's family.
