H. Layne Thoreson, age 67 a longtime Valparaiso resident passed away Friday, March 9, 2012. He was born on August 25, 1944 in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1962. Layne retired from Superior Construction after 42 years of service as a Superintendent. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and being outdoors. He had a great love for children and was known by all his grandchildren as "Peep".

He is survived by his loving wife of over 48 years, Carol Thoreson (nee Conner) of Valparaiso, IN; 2 sons, Eric (Char) Thoreson of Oswego, IL; Brad (Judy) Thoreson of Rensselaer, IN; 2 brothers, James Thoreson of Medaryvile, IN; Jack Thoreson of Hammond, IN; 7 grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Lucas, Meghan, Zachary, Haley, and Rachel Thoreson, Cory and Cody Conner, 3 step-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Andrew Roe, 1 great-granddaughter, Isabella Lucas, and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. and Bonita Thoreson.

Because of his love of children, memorial donations in Layne's honor may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House or Riley's Children Hospital in lieu of flowers.

Public visitation will be Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a private family funeral service at 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph Street, Winfield, 46307.
