Harold D. Crowder, age 89 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Wednesday June 19, 2024. He was born on May 13, 1935, in Hillham, Indiana to the late James and Ruth Crowder. He graduated from French Lick High School, Class of 1953. Harold moved to Hobart in 1953 and married Shirley Mae Hurlburt on September 1, 1956, at the Hobart First Christian Church. He worked for U.S Steel for 32 yrs. as an Electrician retiring in 1987, not ready to stop working he found himself at Seimen-Westinghouse as a Technician, retiring in 2003. Harold was a past Master at the Hobart Masonic Lodge #357, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #314.
He is survived by two sons, Greig (Debbie) Crowder of Valparaiso, IN; Jerry (Linda) Crowder of Duncan, SC; two daughters, Pamela Ferguson of Merrillville, IN; Kathi (Jesse) Garland of Columbus, IN; one brother, James (Janice) Crowder of Jeffersonville, IN; two sisters, Margie (Carl Wray) Eastridge of Valparaiso, IN; Carolyn (James) Brassard of Chandler, AZ; sister-in-law, Brenda Crowder; six grandchildren, Brandi (Keith) Hunt, Lauren (Dan) Vandewalle, Heather Shaw, Katie Crowder, Michael Ferguson, Blake Garland, eight great-grandchildren, Logan and Alexis Hunt, Morgan, Grant, Joel, and Lyla Vandewalle, Bretton Shaw, and Kialer Duncan
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. Crowder (nee Hurlburt), three brothers, Robert (Vernita) Crowder, Charlie (Judy) Crowder, Vance Crowder, one sister, Doris (Charles) Lindsey.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Harold can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 ST. JUDE Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959
Funeral services are Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Southlake Church of the Nazarene, 7355 E. 81st Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 with Rev. Michael Triem officiating, with additional visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. His visitation is Friday, June 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at the Southlake Church of the Nazarene.
