Harold R. Slane

Harold R. Slane, age 98 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018. He was born on July 15, 1919 in Kinmundy, Illinois to the late Thomas and Ida Slane. Harold retired from U.S. Steel in 1981. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a longtime member of American Legion Post 100 in Lake Station. He was a former member of the Hobart Moose Lodge 783. Harold enjoyed bowling, dancing, and traveling around the United States.

He is survived by one son, Thomas (Shirley) Slane of Valparaiso, IN; one step-daughter, Addonia Kaletta; two grandchildren, Jennifer Berrier, Suzanne (James) Eli, five great-grandchildren, Kyler, Marlee, Sophia, Claire, and Stella, many step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leota, two brothers, William and Arlie Slane, two sisters, Dema Slane, and Dorothy Beard and two step-daughters, Thelma Lou Clark, and Beth Ann Goff, and one step son, Michael Hubbell.
